What a great day today has been. Today is Emile's 16th Birthday! It's so hard for me to believe it's been 16 years since I first held her in my arms. I was happy beyond words that day. We've had some wonderful times together ever since... and I'm pretty sure we'll have many more to come.
With each passing day, Emile becomes more and more independent. She is intelligent, musically talented, compassionate to those who have heavy burdens, and is trying to become a better person each and every day.
The sky is the limit, sweetheart. While your life has not necessarily been the easiest, you recognize that there are others who have even harsher situations. You have the strength within you to succeed at what ever you set your mind on. Always use challenges as stepping stones instead of stumbling blocks.
I am privileged to be your mother. We may have our "moments," however, I wouldn't change a single thing. That which does not kill us makes us strong. We're both strong women (yes, I called you a woman... as you truly are becoming more and more every day). We're still standing. May you have joy in your life. May all your dreams be fulfilled. May you rise to great heights and achieve your full potential. I love you with all my heart. Happy Birthday, honey.
